STC $4.1 million Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) upgrade to rural villages complete

Two Year Upgrade Project at STC Yields Improved Performance

Sycamore, Ohio, October 22, 2012:  It has been a two year undertaking, but the Sycamore Telephone Company (STC), has completed a Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) upgrade to bring Sycamore, Melmore, and McCutchenville state of the art fiber optic communication services. The upgrades are so modern, in fact, that the new internet, telephone and television services offered in the three villages outpace those of larger cities like Upper Sandusky and Tiffin.

The upgrades were made possible by a $4,149,455 federal grant that STC applied for in 2009 and was awarded in 2010. The grant was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The purpose of the grant was to allow community minded telecommunication operators the opportunity to provide modern communication tools to rural markets. “We understand the challenges of living in rural markets when it comes to television, internet and telephone services”, stated Rick Ekleberry Broadband Operations Manager at STC. “We also understand the benefits of raising a family and living removed from bigger cities. It’s tough on businesses, institutions and families. Now, having cutting edge communication and entertainment services in a rural setting is simply the best of both worlds.”  STC worked tirelessly to install completely new fiber optic cable that can be utilized by some 4,200 residents, 450 businesses and 14 community institutions in the villages of Sycamore, Melmore and McCutchenville.

The new services provided by STC can be bundled or purchased separately by current and new STC customers. “The new pricing is incredibly affordable when compared to other internet, television and telephone providers in our area,” said Ekleberry, “and the new lines rival any in the country when it comes to quality and reliability. We are talking internet speeds that are up to ten times faster than services currently available in our area.”

Customers in the new services can contact STC at 419-927-6012 to schedule an installation update in their home or business. Customers can also go to www.syctelco.com for more information.
